Women
have always been important in the service of Jesus, from
the women who supported Jesus and the disciples to the
women who support His work today. The WINGS Ministry has
a place for every woman in the congregation to use her
talents to serve the Lord. There are over 20 different
ministries organized to do our best to make sure that the
unique talents of women to serve others are used to her
best ability. AMISTAD:
Amistad is a Spanish word meaning "friendship,"
and that describes the Amistad program. This ministry is
designed to promote friendship and fellowship between the
ladies of Iglesia De Cristo and the ladies of Fairlane.
To accomplish this, activities are planned throughout the
year on various themes. Much has already been learned
from each other and about each other, and the fellowships
are always very enjoyable for all involved. "How
is it Bretheren, When ye come together every one of you
hath a Psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a
revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be
done unto edifying." ~1 Corinthians 14:26 AMONG
THE LILIES: We only have to look around to see the beauty
God has created. The women of this ministry bring some of
God's natural beauty into our worship service by
decorating our auditorium with fresh and silk
arrangements of plants and flowers. They also maintain
the fresh plants and change the greenery to match the
season or occasion. "Consider
how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet, I
tell you, even Solomon in all his splendor was not
dressed like one of these." ~Luke 12:27 BABY
AND WEDDING SHOWERS: The goal of this ministry is to hold
baby showers for first-time mothers and bridal teas are
given for those entering marriage. Ministry members help
plan the date, decorate, and prepare the food. This
ministry has always been very effective and efficient. It
works on a team rotation basis. It provides an
opportunity to share our love with new mothers and
brides-to-be. "He
who finds a wife finds what is good..." ~Proverbs
18:22 BEAR
BUDDIES: The Bear Buddies Ministry provides a cuddly
stuffed bear to each child under the age of six who is
brought into the hospital emergency room or who is
admitted to the hospital. A short message is attached to
each bear offering words of comfort and a welcome to the
Fairlane Church. Some of the women involved meet on the
first and third Tuesday of the month from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
and occassionally at night to stuff bears and/or paint
faces. These ladies make the bears themselves, using
donated fabric from Fairlane members. "Train
up a child in the way he should go. Even when he is old
he will not depart from it." ~Proverbs 22:6 COLLEGE-AGE
CARING PROGRAM: Studies show that it's the post-high
school years when we lose the most of our young people.
Our college age students have left their families and are
out of our congregation temporarily while they pursue
their college studies. The goal of this ministry is to
let our college-age students know they are loved and
remembered even while they are away from us. The ministry
members do this by sending cards, letters, and care
packages. "Remember
your creator in the days of your youth..."
~Ecclesiates 12:1 COMMUNICATION:
Communication is the key to keeping all the ladies of the
congregation informed about the upcoming events and
activities, and the works of the various ministries. This
goal is met through a WINGS resource book, a newsletter,
and this website. The resource book is printed once a
year detailing each of the ministries. The newsletter is
printed 10 to 12 times a year featuring a calendar of
activities and articles of interest to women. Women of
the congregation are encouraged to submit articles and
ideas for newsletter topics. "And
do not neglect doing good and sharing: for with such
sacrifices God is pleased." FAITH
IN ACTION: The mission of this ministry is to provide
food for our members who are just home from the hospital,
for those who have been confined at home because of
illness, or who have been away from home caring for sick
relatives, and for those who live alone and would enjoy
someone else's cooking. This ministry works on a team
rotation basis. "Suppose
there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don't
have enough to eat. What good is there in your saying to
them, 'God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!' if you do
not give them the necessities of life?" ~James
2:15-16 FUNERAL
MINISTRY: Ladies involved in this ministry are
compassionate, serving helpers to the family touched by
severe illness and death. They do this by arranging
meals, assisting the family in their grief, and visiting
the funeral home. They also reach out to the community by
sending a letter and a pamphlet to a family member of one
who's death notice appears in the local paper. "Bear
one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of
Christ." ~Galations 6:2 GRITS
(Girls Raised In The Service, of God): The goal of this
ministry is to assist our young women to grow up to be
special servants in the kingdom of God. The ladies of
this ministry do this by teaching special classes,
planning activities, doing service projects with the
girls, and assisting with youth activities. "...
that they may encourage the younger women to love their
husbands, to love their children..." ~Titus 2:4 HELPING
HANDS: This ministry is designed to help around the
Fairlane building with anything from decorating to office
help. Help is often needed when special events occur such
as gospel meetings, special fellowship activities, and
with different seasons of the year. Tennessee Children's
Home also asks for several donations of items during the
year and collecting, boxing, and advertising these needs
are part of this ministry's responsibility. With the new
fellowship hall kitchen comes the responsibility of
cleaning out the pantry, refrigerator, and cabinets
occasionally. The library often needs straightening,
books refiled, and new books processed. All these areas
need Helping Hands. "Whatever
your hands find to do, verily, do it with all your
might..." ~Proverbs 9:10 HOSPITALITY:
This is a new ministry which combines two previous
ministries, "Open Arms" and
"Friendship." The purpose of this ministry is
to warmly welcome our visitors and new members and
promoste fellowship among all the members at Fairlane.
Four teams devided equallly among the congregation will
meet once a month for a pot luck dinner following the
Sunday morning service. This ministry will be in charge
of a coffee or luncheon twice a year to welcome all the
ladies who are new to the congregation, and it will also
encourage and help the men plan a breakfast or luncheon
to welcome the men who are new to Fairlane. KICS
(Kids In Christ Serving): This is a program organized for
the children from 2 years of age through the 5th grade.
The children go to a KICS class during the Sunday evening
service, where they learn to serve like Jesus and get
along with each other through a monthly activity. The
ladies of this ministry coordinate programs and assist
the planners of the monthly programs, and also teach in
the programs. "Teach
me, oh Lord, the way of your decrees, and I will follow
them to the end." ~Psalm 119:33 LADIES
NIGHT OUT: This is a ministry that organizes
get-togethers for all women of the congregation and for
any of our friends and neighbors that you may wish to
invite. There is usually one planned each quarter. It is
a special night of spending quality spiritual time
together in fellowship. Women in this ministry help with
planning and scheduling programs, preparing rooms for
events, write invitations, announcements, and brochures
advertising the events. "Sing
and rejoice O daughter of Zion: for lo, I come, and I
will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord."
~Zechariah 2:10 NEW
MOTHERS: The goal of this ministry is to make the new
mother feel comfortable in her new and most important
role and to welcome the new baby. Each new baby is
presented with a Bible, usually in a basket with a few
gifts. Members in this ministry call the new mothers,
offering help, support, and encouragement. They may even
help out with meals and housework when there is a sick
child or a stressed-out mother. A mothers' class on
Wednesday night is also offered for support and spiritual
growth of mothers. "Behold
children are a gift of the Lord." ~Psalm 127:3 NURSERY:
The purpose of this ministry is to provide a nursery for
babies during the worship services. The Sunday morning
nursery is staffed with ladies who volunteer to keep the
nursery for one month. The Sunday evening nursery is
staffed by a rotating volunteer list who will work in the
nursery for two weeks in a row. A Sunday morning and
Wednesday Cradle Roll class is always available to teach
the babies. "And
he said: 'I will tell you the truth, unless you change
and become like little children, you will never enter the
kingdom of Heaven." ~Mattew 18:3 NURSING
HOME: The goal of this ministry is to help out our
members who are in the local nursing homes. The ladies of
this ministry do this by visiting, planning lunches to
take in, putting together goodie boxes or other gifts,
fixing hair and nails of the residents, sending cards,
reading the Bible aloud, and any other service the
residents need. "In
everything I showed you that by working hard in this
manner you must help the weak and remember the words of
the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed
to give than receive.'" ~Acts 20:35 SAMARITANS:
The goal of this ministry is service, doing "real
deeds." Their projects include: relieving
care-givers, providing transportation to doctor's
appointments, making visits, sending cards and just
listening. The shut-ins appreciate this ministry. "It
is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great
among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be
first among you will be your slave: just as the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give
his live for a ransom for many." ~Matthew 20:26-28 SUPER
SENIORS: The objective of this ministry is to provide an
opportunity for our older members to meet together once a
month for visiting with each other, for group activities,
programs, service projects, and fun. "Do
not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my
strength is gone." You
are always encouraged to let us know of a ministry that
is needed at Fairlane. You may know of something that is
effective for furthering the cause of Christ that is not
being done at this time. Please don't hesitate to turn in
suggestions to Barbara Morgan or Robin
Simmons at any time. Your suggestions are always
welcomed. |
