Ruth Evans….Virginia Haile…Jim Ladwig….Tom Clark….these names don’t mean anything to you as you read this. You haven’t met them or read about them in the news. They aren’t famous and have no influence in social media.
These are names of women and men who taught some of my bible classes when I was a child and teen. They all worked jobs throughout the week. They each had families that demanded their attention and they had busy schedules like we do today. None of them were Bible scholars or accomplished theologians. They didn’t have all of the answers asked by inquisitive kids or skeptical teens. They weren’t perfect. They had their flaws. They had their weaknesses.
For all they didn’t have, they had a great deal. They had a love for kids and teens. They held the belief that these children and teens needed to hear about the love of God for them. They believed that they needed to hear and experience the stories of faith and perseverance from the Old Testament. They fervently believed that young people needed to hear about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and they hope we have in him. They believed the younger generation needed to hear about the ministry and growth of the first century church and how they are called to be a part of today’s church. They believed these truths. They acted on these truths. They sacrificed their time, energy and comfort to make a difference in the life of the kids and teens at the Franklin Road Church of Christ in Indianapolis, Indiana.
At Fairlane, we have the opportunity to teach our children about the God who loves them. We have a deep need for women and men to step forward and teach in our children’s ministry. You don’t have to have all of the answers. You don’t have to be a biblical scholar. You don’t have to be perfect. Your desire to bless our children at Fairlane is the greatest resource that you need.
The lessons aren’t difficult to teach. You will receive material for the class that you can review during the week and teach on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening. Our resource room has supplies for your class. Other teachers will be glad to help you as well. Our children’s ministry is a team. You will make a commitment to teach for one quarter (13-weeks) and after that period someone else will begin their teaching experience. You will be amazed what you learn during your time teaching our children and the relationships you build with them. Chances are, you will want to teach again and enjoy being with our kids.
We love our children and teens at Fairlane. They need to learn about and experience the love of God. Step out of your comfort zone and sign up to teach this Sunday. You can sign up to teach on Wednesday evenings or Sunday mornings. (The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the foyer.) If you have any questions, please see Susan Huff. Susan is doing a great job leading our children’s ministry!
Make a difference today. I’m thankful for Ruth, Virginia, Jim and Tom who made a difference in my life. You can have that same impact on one of our children. Commit to teach and see how God blesses you as you bless the children at Fairlane.
