“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’” – Lamentations 3:22-24
Most mornings, I take our dogs for a walk through our neighborhood. This morning as I was walking, I noticed the trees blooming in our neighbor’s yard and the dogwood tree blooming in our side yard. I noticed the flowers blooming in the flower beds and the new leaves sprouting on the trees. The sun was rising in the east and the skies were beginning to turn blue. It’s a new season of life and growth. As I looked at the sun, I was reminded that it’s also a new day filled with new opportunities and experiences.
Each day is a new day. Jeremiah reminds us of this in Lamentations when he declares that the mercies of the Lord are new every morning. Each day is a fresh start for us. Each day is a chance to make different decisions and take different actions. Each day is a new opportunity to grow closer to God and share His love and kindness. Each day is a new day to make a difference.
If you had a fight with your spouse last night, it’s a new day to ask forgiveness and seek to understand and reconcile.
If you lost your cool with one of your children, it’s a new day to embrace them with kindness and patience.
If you messed up at your job, it’s a new day to correct mistakes and learn from them.
If you gave into a temptation and sinned, it’s a new day to pick up your cross and ask for God’s strength in your battle.
If you are struggling and don’t know what to do, it’s a new day to seek out a Christian friend for prayer and counsel.
If you are feeling spiritually dry, it’s a new day to return to prayer, scripture and meditation and seek God and His presence.
Today, is truly a new day. It’s a new opportunity for growth, correction, planning and stepping out in faith and trust.
It’s a new day. What are you going to do with it?
