On social media over the past few months, I’ve seen several posts promoting “Jesus for President”. The idea is that Jesus would lead in a way in which the person posting would agree. It’s been humorous to see these postings, because I have Republican friends who have posted them and Democrat friends who have posted them as well. We tend to manipulate Jesus into aligning with our political beliefs and believe that he would support and be a part of our political party.
Jesus doesn’t need to be President. Jesus is King. Jesus is the King of Kings. He sits at the right hand of God and when he returns upon the new earth, he will reign for eternity. When we advocate for Jesus as President, I wonder if we are following him as our king. He is the ultimate ruler in our life. Every one of his commands is perfect. Every word he has spoken is true. He doesn’t break his promises. You can trust in him and know that he will deliver. You don’t have to question his morality or ethics because he has proven to be spotless in both regards. Jesus isn’t going to have to be limited by term limits. He will reign for eternity.
I hope you have voted or will vote this Tuesday. I’m praying for God’s will to be done in this election and for our country to be blessed by the results. I am praying for President Trump and Vice-President Biden and will continue to pray for them in the weeks ahead. More importantly, I’m going to be following Jesus. He is my King. He is the one who leads me and my family each day and whose words give me life and sustain my life. I hope he is your King as well. I hope he is the one who is leading your life and who has your allegiance. I hope you are ready to celebrate his reign throughout eternity.
Jesus doesn’t need to be President. He is already the King. Praise God that we have a Savior who leads us perfectly and who will reign forever.
“9 Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
