As I write this, I’m sitting in a coffee shop in Tallahassee, Florida. (Check out Lucky Goat Coffee if you are ever in Tallahassee.) Whenever I get out of town to visit family or for vacation, it’s always a good time to reflect upon where I’ve been, where I’m going and where I’m headed. It’s beneficial to assess from time to time what is working, what’s not working and what potential changes that you need to make. A little self-examination is good for the soul.
As I think back about where I’ve been, I’m always amazed at the places I have been. Growing up as a boy in central Indiana, I never dreamed that I would live in Florida, Louisiana and Tennessee during my life. I would never have imagined doing mission work in Honduras, Jamaica and Mexico and visiting several other cities that I have been blessed to enjoy. I never dreamed that my wife, Misty, (my greatest blessing) would be growing up at the same time in Tallahassee. I never imagined that I would one day be a preaching minister and have the opportunity to minister to and live life with a wonderful church family like Fairlane. God has been good to me.
This life I lived has been lived one step at a time. God has been faithful, and He has continually guided me. Most of my steps have been good steps. Steps that have led me in the right direction. But I have also taken some bad steps that have brought pain and confusion into my life. The road, by my own choosing, hasn’t always been easy. But God has been faithful. Even when I wasn’t faithful to Him, He has remained faithful and good. He continued to watch my steps and stepped back in to guide me when I turned back to Him.
I don’t know what the future holds for me. Truly, none of us do. I know what I want to happen and what I hope will happen, but I’m uncertain what each day holds. The only thing I am absolutely certain of is that God will be with me. As I wake up each day and begin walking my steps, He will be faithful. As I walk side-by-side with Misty, He will be good to us and He will be the author of our story. As we live life with Davidson, He will bless our family. One step at a time, He will be there.
I hope you are walking your life’s walk with God. Life isn’t always easy, and the way can be difficult, but God is faithful and good. As you walk the steps of your life, if you let Him, He will be faithful in the journey. He will give you what you need to face whatever comes your way and He will be present through it all. One step at a time, He will be there. Trust Him. He is good. He will be with you one step at a time.
