Lance’s Lines – One Week at 101 Dow Drive (July 3, 2022)

July 2, 2022 By Michael Rector Leave a Comment

For some members of the Fairlane family, a visit to 101 Dow Drive occurs once a week and for others it occurs two to three times a week. We gather for worship, Bible classes and an occasional life group meeting. Then, we go our separate ways to live lives as disciples of Christ among our families, friends and co-workers throughout the week.

Some reading this may not realize all that goes on at 101 Dow Drive during the rest of the week. Here’s a glimpse of what happened during this past week.

Last Saturday, a funeral for a beloved member of the Shelbyville community was held at Fairlane. The auditorium was filled with family and friends celebrating a life well lived. Fairlane hosts several non-Fairlane family funerals throughout the year.

Marital and individual spiritual counseling was conducted in the church offices. Each week, spiritual counsel is given to those addressing issues in their marriages and in their spiritual lives.

A food box was given to a woman struggling financially in this challenging economy. This food will provide nourishment and hope throughout the rest of her week. Food boxes are given out regularly at Fairlane.

Our sound system was updated to help improve our worship experience. This should improve the sound in our auditorium and cease the “popping” that we hear sometimes in the speakers under the balcony. Step by step, we are making needed changes to some of the resources and facilities at 101 Dow Drive.

During the week, study time was used to create bible classes and sermons which we hope will be used to bless the Fairlane family. Relevant and challenging sermons and classes take time to prepare and each week time is taken to create the lessons used to inspire the Fairlane family.

On Sunday afternoon and Friday evening, an NA group met to help each other battle and overcome narcotics addiction. Addiction has affected many of us and our families and this group provides hope, healing and a community for those overcoming their addiction.

This is just a glimpse of what has taken place this past week. Each week brings different opportunities for our building to be used to bless our community and to grow the Kingdom in Shelbyville. Each week our building is being used to strengthen families and individuals as they walk with Christ.

Each week God is doing His good work at 101 Dow Drive while also doing His good work among the members of the Fairlane family as they live and work in our town and surrounding county.

God is doing good things among our church family and throughout each week at 101 Dow Drive.
