Lance’s Lines – Travelers (April 3, 2022)

April 2, 2022 By Michael Rector Leave a Comment

Our hotel that we stayed in during our recent visit to The Ark Encounter overlooked a parking area for the Cincinnati airport. As I looked at the packed parking lot, I was aware that each vehicle represented people that were currently traveling. Some were traveling for business. Others were traveling for pleasure and enjoying their planned vacations. Others were traveling to see family and friends. The parking lot represented a host of people who were traveling.

As I have thought about this parking lot of travelers, I’ve been reminded that God’s people have always been travelers. Noah and his family traveled on the ark. Abraham traveled to an unknown land at God’s request. Moses traveled with the Israelites from Egypt, across the Red Sea and to the borders of “the promised land”. Later, the Israelites traveled in captivity to Babylon and then traveled back to Israel. Jesus traveled throughout Galilee sharing His gospel and the first century church traveled from Israel to Europe, Asia and India. Traveling is in the DNA of God’s people.

All of us are travelers in this life. From the cradle to the grave, we are on a journey. Created by the Father with purpose, we have a mission to complete that will reveal God’s will and glory in our lives. It’s a journey that will have highs and lows. There will be seasons of celebration and joy and seasons of sadness and frustration. There will be clear paths that we will walk and some obstacles to overcome. Thankfully, we won’t walk this journey alone. Our Father walks side by side with us and sustains us when the going gets rough. He carries us through the trials in our lives and blesses us with His strength and grace.

We are all travelers on a journey. It’s a journey with a destination. As we are clothed with God’s grace and remain faithful to His call on our lives, our journey will conclude with an eternal home with our Father. Our travels will be over. Our journey will be completed, and we will celebrate and rejoice with our faithful family and friends in the land with no time. Our journey will have been worth it. We will be at home with our fellow travelers, and the One who loves us more than we will ever know.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
