A look ahead at the FYM Calendar of Events for 2019:
Sunday Morning Bible Class — We are currently studying through the “Immerse in His Word” curriculum with our High School & Middle School students. This curriculum is designed by 21st Century Christian. The first 4 lessons revolve around the idea of “Your Possessions” as a young person. Most of people love the things they own. They spend their hard-earned money on the items they buy and put much of their identity into them. That is not the type of reaction that God wants us to have towards our possessions. The next 4 lessons revolve around the idea of “Your Priorities” as a young person. Something or someone is going to help set our priorities. We better make sure that we listen to the right person and look in the right place. The last 4 lessons revolve around the idea of “The Work of Christ.” This unit shows the unique blend of divinity and humanity of Jesus brought to earth. Many Christian students have a deep desire to know Jesus and to make a difference for Him.
Wednesday Night Class — For the next quarter we will be continue studying through and discussing the Jesus Studies. This series of lessons presents numerous topics and ideas. A couple that we have done recently have been“Jesus and Identity,” “Jesus and Influence,” and “Jesus and Tough Times.”
For January, we will be studying through the 4 week series entitled, “Jesus and Mean People.” Everyone has experienced them. Everyone knows how it feels to be on the receiving end of their special brand of attention. Of course, we’re talking about mean people. No one is safe from their meanness, especially not teenagers. For so many reasons, mean people are a part of our teenagers’ lives. And the biggest thing about mean people is that very rarely does one do anything to deserve their wrath. How should teenagers act in the face of the mean people who inhabit their worlds?
In February, we will be studying through the 4 week series entitled, “Jesus and Stuff.” Our culture puts a tremendous value on having stuff. And not just on having stuff, but being emotionally attached to our stuff. This message is played out in so many different aspects of our lives. We’re told a certain car will make us happy. A certain brand will make us cool. A certain gadget will make us fulfilled. And so many of us buy into these messages whole heartedly. Especially our teenagers.
