What an incredible summer it has been so far at Fairlane! Thank you to everyone who as been involved in all of the happenings of the Youth Ministry this summer. Whether you were a participant, chaperone, cook, teacher, LifeGroup host, or helper. You are appreciated more than you know!
We started the summer off with our Lock-In on May 31-June 1. We had 45 students and a host of adults take part in this fun all-night event which included: 3-on-3 basketball tournament, dodgeball, painting, midnight devo and pizza, group games, and some sleep.
Next, some of our group went to Uplift at Harding University on June 8-13. There, we were challenged by the theme “Believe.” We were challenged to think about not only what we believe and why, but how to begin or continue telling others about that.
From Uplift, a small group of us went to Impact at Lipscomb on June 18 and 20. During those 2 sessions, we were challenged to by their theme “Bound.” We were challenged to work through and use that Psalms on our faith journey; Psalms of Lament; Psalms of Wisdom; Psalms of Worship; etc.
Following Impact, a group of 25 headed on a Mission Trip to the City of Children in Ensenada, Mexico on June 22-28. While there, the group accomplished many things but the main task was a 4 night Vacation Bible School for the residents there. The text our group was assigned was Luke chapter 2 and the theme for the week was “The Greatest Gift of All.” It was like Christmas in June! We hope that you can join us at our evening service tonight to hear a report from this Mission Team on the trip and work done.
Next, it was time for Mid South Youth Camp on June 30 – July 5. 10 students and/or friends from Fairlane attended Church Camp at Mid South that week; and we had 2 students and/or friends attend a previous week! They were challenged with the theme “The American Dream, Upside Down“. Year after year, this camp creates opportunities for our students to build relationships with other teen christians, mentor relationships with the counselors, and a deeper faith through the Bible studies, classes, and devotionals they have throughout the week.
Then it was on to one of our bigger, church-wide, events Vacation Bible School which took place on July 14-17. At this year’s VBS, we were 170 at our biggest point. All the praise, glory, and honor be to God for providing precious hearts and minds for us to minister to during our time together each night. Fairlane couldn’t make a VBS like this happen without our team of helpers and Co-Directors. From teachers, to cooks, to craft and game leaders, to skit crews, to adult and student participants. We had so many hands on deck this year to help that we couldn’t possibly begin to name them all and adequately thank them; but they know who they are and so does our Father in Heaven. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you! And I would like to say a special thank you to our Co-Directors, Mary-Leta Shavers and Emily Whaley, for all of their work prior to, during, and after VBS!
We look forward to ending our summer on July 26-28 with our Back to School Trip to St. Louis. A group of 27 of us will be enjoying time at Six Flags, Busch Stadium for the Cardinals vs. Astros, and possibly the Zoo. Please pray for our group to have safe travels there and back and that relationships will be made stronger through the fun and fellowship that is had by all.
