Shine Kids Rally @ Southside Church of Christ —
On March 23, from 9:00am-2:00pm, there will be an event for students Pre-k through 5th grade. The theme is “Build with The Word from Ephesians 4:29.” There will be classes, activities, crafts, singing, lunch, and a photo booth. There will also be an Adult Auditorium Class with a few different speakers who will be presenting a lesson. I am happy to announce that I will be one of those speakers.
My lesson will be “Unwholesome talk: So much more than vulgar language.” One thing that I will be focusing on specifically is something that is going in our society right now and that is the epidemic of “I’m just kidding.” This epidemic carries the connotation that if we use that phrase at the right time and in the right way, it removes all responsibility and accountability from me as the one who spoke the hurtful word or phrase. As you’d imagine, this isn’t the case at all and it most certainly doesn’t eliminate any of the unnecessary pain and stress that is caused as a result. I hope that you will come and support this effort regardless of your age or the age of your student(s).
Areawide Youth Event @ Cedar Lane Church of Christ —
On April 28, from 5:00pm-8:00pm, there will be a Youth event from grades 6th-12th. The FYM will be traveling to Tullahoma to join with Cedar Lane’s youth group for the night. We are labeling this event “Unplugged,” because we want to unplug from everything that can distract and/or hinder us in our relationship with each other and God. And as we unplug from those things, we want to intentionally plug into the things that will help bring us closer to Him and to each other. Things like, fellowship, worship, bible study, encouraging activities, and so on. So, come and join us for a night of fun, fellowship, and food. We will plan to host the next Areawide here at Fairlane on either June 30 or August 25.
Graduation Sunday, a day for our Seniors, will be here before we know it!
On Sunday, May 5, we will celebrate with the families and friends of our graduating Seniors. We will have a special worship service and message that day, along with a meal and presentation in the Fellowship Hall.
Our graduating class of 2019: Landon Parker, Lance Rains, Andrew Reed, and Mason Warner.
If you know of someone that is missing from this list, please let me know as soon as possible. I’m still the new kid on the block and don’t want to leave anyone out.
We ask all parents of Seniors to submit 50-150 photos for their student’s presentation no later than Sunday, April 28, but we can work with you if that can’t happen. Photos need to be turned in on a CD, USB stick, or shared through an online storage platform like Prime Photo, Google Drive, Drop Box, etc. Please let Michael know if you need any help with this. We will put these together and watch them together that day as we celebrate and remember some of their greatest memories together. Also, remember that your Senior will have a table and area in the Fellowship Hall that can be decorated by way of honoring them. This gives many people an opportunity to set a gift for them out and come by and speak to them and give them words of wisdom, encouragement, and love. You should be able to get in to decorate their space on the Saturday before, possibly even Friday. We look forward to this day together.
Summer kickoff lock-in:
On May 31 – June 1, from 9:00pm-8:00am, there will be a lock-in at the Fellowship Hall for grades 6th-12th. We hope that the students and adults involved with our Youth Ministry will pack it out for this event and invite tons of friends! The cost is $5.00 per person. Some things that might make their way to the lock-in include, but aren’t limited to: 3-on-3 basketball tournament, dodgeball, movie night featuring Christian films, video games, tons of snacks and plenty of soda, water, and juice to drink! We will end out time together with breakfast on that Saturday morning and wrap up by 8am.
