Phillipians 1:12 – 13 tells us, “Now I want you to know, that what has happened to me has actually resulted in the advancement of the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is for Christ Jesus.” Paul shares his belief that even though he is enduring hardship, (prison), that the gospel of Jesus Christ is being advanced. Let’s think about that for a few minutes and ask ourselves the question, when we are going through difficulty/hardship have we seen it as a way to advance the gospel? I won’t speak for anyone but myself and I can honestly say that I don’t recall ever thinking that whatever was causing my difficulty to be a good thing for the advancement of Christ. Paul is trying to persuade the readers of the letter that because of his example in the prison and his not hiding the fact he is in prison for preaching the word of God he is being talked about. As Christians when we go through hardship and difficulties we should all pray for that same ability to look at whatever we are dealing with as a GREAT way to show God’s power and love through us! We can do that by our attitude, by our willingness to continue doing all we can for our church body and many other things. This can show that regardless of what difficulty we are facing, like Paul, our focus is on our Lord……now THAT would be powerful!!!
