Matthew 4:3-4 tells us, “The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]” As we have been studying unique characters out of the Bible we have been trying to stress to the youth their “humanness”. When we study Samson and Gideon we can easily do that because they are indeed human and the issues they present in the scripture are pretty easy to discern whether it be Samson’s HUGE ego or Gideon’s fear and lack of faith in the beginning of his journey to do what God was calling him to do, but now we see Jesus in scripture being tempted. Young Christians, and even some of our more experienced ones, sometimes feel the need to be perfect and any mistake or even feeling of being tempted can cause feelings of doubt, remorse, sadness, etc. but we should all take comfort that even Jesus himself was tempted! So far, the characters we have studied have always found ways to come through in the end and follow God’s plan for their lives and obviously Jesus did as well and as Christians today before we beat ourselves up when our “humanness” shines through we too can take heart that if we walk by faith God will deliver us as well!!!
Senior Sunday Celebration
We need pictures!!! May the 6th will be here before we know it and I want to send our graduates out in style with a celebration worthy of their accomplishment. PLEASE bring pictures to me or by the church office and leave them with Candy so we can get them scanned in and get the slide show all set up for that day.
Vacation Bible School dates are set and they are June 3rd, 4th and 5th here at Fairlane from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.! The theme is “Rolling River Rampage…..experiencing the ride of a lifetime with God.” The scripture base is Isaiah 43:2 which tells us, “When you pass through the waters I will be with you.” The church has gotten in curriculum guides, craft ideas, scripts, etc. already located in my office. I will be posting sign-up sheets outside my door for anyone interested in teaching for the next couple of Sundays and then we will meet before the end of March to finalize our VBS staff.
The dates are June 9th (Saturday) through June 14th (Thursday) at Harding University. I will be posting a sign-up sheet outside my office door for that with additional information but want to encourage all youth from the sixth grade on up interested to sign up. This youth trip is an AWESOME event were we go to and learn about God and fellowship with approximately 1,000 other teenagers and adult chaperones!
